Extreme Hot Weather Guidance
Following the Met Office’s extreme weather warnings for Monday and Tuesday of next week, Lambeth are not advising schools to close during high temperatures as there is no maximum legal temperature threshold. If sensible precautions are taken children are unlikely to be adversely affected by hot conditions, however we are putting the following procedures into place for next week to ensure they all stay safe:
- Children will be allowed to wear their own clothes on Monday and Tuesday – it is recommended that the children wear loose, light-coloured clothing which will help to keep them cool and a sun hat with a wide brim to avoid sunburn. Please try to ensure that their clothing covers their shoulders.
- Please ensure your child brings the following named/labelled items to school on both days
- suntan lotion - at least factor 30 with UVA protection
- a water bottle
- a clean washcloth or flannel which could be used to cool themselves down if needed
- Vigorous PE will not take place and children will be kept in the shade wherever possible
- The use of electrical lighting will be kept to a minimum in classrooms and access to drinking water is readily available in all classrooms
The children will take part in their Class Swap on Monday morning where they will have the opportunity to meet their new teachers. Parent/carers will have the option to collect your child after lunch at 1:30pm or the normal time of 3:15pm. Please email your class teacher by 8:30am on Monday if you will be collecting at 1:30pm so we can organise the children for collection.
We hope you all manage to stay cool and hydrated over the weekend and beyond.
