Rights Respecting School
Julian’s Primary School is committed to being a Rights Respecting School. The journey takes the participants through bronze, silver and gold accreditations.
The Rights Respecting Schools Award is granted to schools that show commitment to promoting and realising children’s rights. These rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted. Young people and the school community learn about children’s rights by putting them into practice every day. At Julian’s, we have been accredited the Silver award for our work so far.
The Silver award is achieved by taking a deeper look and embedding the Conventions of the Rights of the Child into policy, practice and culture of our school.

WHAT IS A RIGHTS RESPECTING SCHOOL?
The UN convention consists of 54 articles in total, with each article referring to a right. UNICEF uses the UNCRC as a framework for its work for all the world’s children and has developed the Rights Respecting School Award (RRSA).
The UNICEF UK Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) is based on principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation. The RRSA seeks to put the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of a school’s ethos and culture to improve well-being and develop every child to enable them to reach their full potential.
The UK Committee for UNICEF works with schools in the UK to create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured, and they are able to thrive.
The Rights Respecting Schools Award embeds these values in daily school life and gives children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens.
