Sustainability and the Environment
At Julian's, we are nurturing responsible citizens for tomorrow. Looking after and respecting our environment and the planet is key to developing good habits now and for the future.
Our children benefit greatly from working outside together. The hands-on experience in nature provides the opportunity to develop team-building, intra- and inter-personal skills as well as practical and intellectual skills - all essential for lifelong learning. All age groups are involved in our gardens. Being out in the fresh air enables emotional wellbeing and helps the children develop confidence and self-esteem. It also promotes the benefit of healthy exercise, encourages good eating habits and an appreciation of where our food comes from through growing fruit and vegetables. Eating what they grow is a source of pride for our children, with plants and produce sold at our summer fair.
Eco-Squad
We elect two members from each class to join our Eco-Squad. This group of students is responsible for forming an action plan to improve the sustainability of the school.
Last year, our Eco-Squad were involved in community planting and this year we hope to broaden our community work. Each year, we celebrate Earth Day and think about how we as individuals and as a school can have a positive impact on the world.
