Curriculum

What does your child learn at school each day? Find information about our curriculum subjects here.

The curriculum underpins all that we do and lies at the heart of raising standards. Our curriculum has been carefully considered to ensure broad and balanced opportunities for all children to develop and learn. As a staff, we have worked together to design a programme that promotes high levels of challenge and achievement and ensures pupils are well prepared for each key stage, secondary education and for adult life in modern Britain.

At the centre of our curriculum are our five key values, which together form a whole school vision. These drivers give the children the skills and strategies necessary to be lifelong learners and successful adults.

  • Respect
  • Integrity
  • Creativity
  • Excellence
  • Resilience

In addition to these drivers, we have a core focus on pupil’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development (SMSC) that is embedded in all areas of the Curriculum. A positive school ethos, which emphasises effort and achievement, encourages pupils to respect themselves and others, develop a strong sense of self-esteem and become confident individuals who can flourish and thrive.

The curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2 includes the following National Curriculum subjects as specified in their Programmes of Study – English, Maths and Science are known as the core subjects, whilst Art and Design, Design and Technology, Computing, Geography, History, Music, Physical Education and Religious Education are known as the foundation subjects.

Maths is planned in units focusing on skills and application. English is planned around a core text often linked to the creative context. Other subjects are developed within the school’s creative context curriculum in order that the curriculum has breadth and balance. All planning is in accordance with National curriculum requirements.

The other statutory requirements are:

  • A Daily Act of Collective Worship.

In addition we teach:

  • Personal, Social and Health Education, including relationship and sex education, and drugs awareness appropriate to the age of the children. Please note that children can only be withdrawn from the sessions which are not in the statutory Science or PSHCE curriculum of the school. This is only applicable for Key Stage 2.
  • Aesthetic and Creative Arts, including Art and Drama.
  • Swimming (for specific year groups, which varies from year to year)/PE/ Dance

All curriculum subjects are enriched with themed days, educational visits and visitors to school to provide a multi-sensory and experiential approach to learning.
