The Autism Advisory Service is provided to all schools in Lambeth. The Service provides support and training in schools for staff to develop a greater understanding of autism and to empower staff to apply good practice to meet each child's needs.
The service primarily provides training, professional advice and modelling, and can also support outcome and target setting in annual reviews. The Advisory Teacher runs regular workshops for school staff and bespoke in-school training which can be arranged to support individual staff. Parent/carer workshops are also delivered.
The service also offers monthly drop-in Parent/Carer Support Groups which are held in different schools in Lambeth. These aim to provide opportunities to meet other parents/carers of children and young people with autism, to share experiences and to discuss strategies and interventions with both parents/carers and professionals.
They also run NAS Early Bird+ and Teen Life Parent Training Programmes. If you would like to find out more about these groups, please contact our Inclusion team.
All children with a formal diagnosis of Autism can be referred to the Autism Advisory Service. Any child on the waiting list to be assessed may also be referred. Consent will be sought from parents/carers before making a referral.
In most cases, the Autism Advisory Teacher will observe the child and provide advice and recommendations on how to support the child in school. In some cases, the Autism Advisory Teacher can meet with parents/carers when they request this.
Edyta Zjawiony is the Autism Advisory Teacher supporting children with ASD at Julian’s.
