We will write a biography of William Shakespeare with a focus on informational language, fronted adverbials and passive voice. We will then write a narrative taking inspiration from our Shakespeare Scene. The grammar focus for this will be key adverbs as well as sentence types like fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and relative clauses. We will also learn how to have an ‘author’s voice’ in our writing. After this we will do information writing about what makes a good architect using the passive voice and all the grammar techniques mentioned before to add detail and extra information.
In geography we will do a site visit of our local roads and use mapping skills to map out a new, better designed version of our area. We will also create questionnaires as part of our field work to ask what improvements residents would like to see.
We will have a Plants focus. We will start with learning about the magical history plants and how they were seen within our Shakespeare play .Then move on to learning about how plants are different using classification keys. We will also learn about the reproductive organs of plants, the different functions of plant and how the pollination process differs including the different types of seed dispersal.
We will be focusing on decimals this term and then moving on to geometry skills. With decimals we will be thinking about how they add and subtract and also problem solving leading to multi-step problems.We will then move on to geometry where we will do mathematical reasoning about irregular and regular polygons as well as learn how to use a protractor to measure angles.
Design & Technology
We will be researching, designing and creating 3D models of buildings and streets in our local area. We will have the help of architects who will come and provide 3 workshops to help us build and extend our 3D modelling skills.
As part of our art unit we will do 3D annotated design drawings. We will also be doing observational drawings of plants and observing how light and shadow can be drawn.
Music is taught weekly with Musictrax and steelpans. We will continue our work from last term.
To consolidate our learning around Shakespeare this term, we will be using coding apps to program dialogue, blogging and to share views and various presentation tools to present and publish. We will add in different scenes and use our own voices for the characters that we have designed using ideas from our Shakespeare drama sessions.
