Happy New Year! I would like welcome everyone back to school. Even though Christmas is busy time of year, I hope the children and parents and carers feel rested and ready for an exciting year ahead. I would like to say how impressed I am with the children’s attitude to learning so far. Thank you for the time and effort you have spent with your child on their projects.
We have a busy term ahead. We will be visiting St Peter’s Church to enhance the children’s learning about Christianity. Another educational visit includes taking a trip to Barnes to visit the Wetlands centre. The children get to enjoy a hands on experience by searching for mini beasts in the bug hotel and keep an eye out for the otters! They swim quickly so be ready to spot them!
PE is on a Thursday morning. So the children can arrive in their PE kit on a Thursday but they will have to get changed back into their uniform.
Children will receive 2 reading books each week. These will be given to the children on different days. When your child has finished the books they can bring them in and place them in the pin basket. We will then swap them for two new books. If I read with your child’s group I can write a comment in their yellow book if they have it on them so it would be great if each night the yellow books are placed back in their school bag.
Open reading morning
Open reading mornings occur on the first Friday of every month (unless an educational visit means this is not possible). All parents and carers are very welcome to join us for these reading sessions from 9:00 till 9:30. We hope you can attend as many of these as possible.
Homework will be sent home each week on a Friday afternoon. This will be a review/consolidation of what the children have been learning in class. Activities and tasks will include a combination of maths, literacy, phonics and creative context topics. We also ask that you read as frequently as possible with your child, using the school books that have been sent home. Please use the reading records to see what your child has been focusing on at reading sessions at school and use this to ask any questions and make comments of how they have got on.
Thank you for your continuous support whether that is with homework, behaviour or reading. If you would like to talk to me in private we can make an appointment to meet after school.
