Welcome to 2KO!
I hope you had a very enjoyable and restful summer holiday. It has been wonderful to meet parents and carers and the children have settled into our new classroom really well. Thanks to those parents and carers that made it to the meet and greet. If you would like any of the handouts that I provided please let me know.
Year 2 will be a fantastic year with lots of exciting things to look forward to, including our educational visit to Shoreham-on-Sea later this month.
PE is on a Tuesday afternoon and a Thursday morning. So the children can arrive in their PE kit on a Thursday but they will have to get changed back into their uniform. We will not have time to change back into school uniform on a Tuesday.
Please ensure children have their PE kit in school for these days.
Children will receive 2 reading books each week. These will be given to the children on different days, according to their current reading group. This will be explained to the children and they will be encouraged to learn which day is their book changing day. I will also try and write in their yellow books when I read with them (once a week) so it would be great if each night the yellow books are placed back in their school bag.
Open reading morning
Open reading mornings occur on the first Friday of every month (unless an educational visit means this is not possible). All parents and carers are very welcome to join us for these reading sessions from 9:00 till 9:30. We hope you can attend as many of these as possible.
Homework will be sent home each week on a Friday afternoon. This will be a review/consolidation of what the children have been learning in class. Activities and tasks will include a combination of maths, literacy, phonics and creative context topics. We also ask that you read as frequently as possible with your child, using the school books that have been sent home. Please use the reading records to see what your child has been focusing on at reading sessions at school and use this to ask any questions and make comments of how they have got on.
Thank you for your continuous support whether that is with homework, behaviour or reading. The Island projects are beautiful and impressive too! If you have any questions, now or throughout the year, please feel free to ask in the playground or to send me an email. If you would like to talk to me in private we can make an appointment to meet after school.
