Welcome to 3C!
Our focus in maths this term will be on multiplication and division with a focus on the 3, 4 and 8 times tables. Children will be provided with new KIRFs linked to times tables. These will be provided the first week back after half-term. Year 3 will also continue to work on their reasoning and problem solving skills this term.
In English, we will be finishing our work on play scripts linked to Anthony Browne's book Into the Forest. We will then move onto our unit on narrative which will focus on the story Fly Eagle Fly by Christopher Gregorowski. Children will focus on story telling techniques, including the use of adjectives, powerful verbs and adverbs to engage the reader. Year 3 will also be exploring stories from different cultures with links to immigration and our history unit on The Windrush.
Year 3 children will be learning about local history this term with a focus on The Windrush— the immigration of people from the Caribbean to Britain in the 1940s and 50s. They will be researching the historical importance of this period, centring on the local area of Brixton. The children will be given the chance to explore the different jobs that were available to those coming to Britain from the Caribbean and the impact this migration had on our locality. In turn, they will relate this to other important historical events on a timeline, learning about the concept of past and present. They will be given the opportunity to research their own cultural heritage, linking back to this term’s focus All About Me.
Linked to our history subject The Windrush, the children will trace the journey the Empire Windrush made from Jamaica to Britain with a focus on learning the names of the oceans and continents. We will then look at where people from the Caribbean settled, paying particular attention to the local area. They will also do a geography based comparative study of Britain and Jamaica.
In Science we will continue our unit on Animals Including Humans and Year 3 will be exploring how animals have adapted to hunt and forage in their environment. They have already worked on catergorising animals into carivores, herbivores and omnivores.
Homework is sent out every Friday and needs to be returned every Wednesday in their plastic wallet.
