I hope you have had a lovely summer and are ready for the new school year! The children have setted into year 2 really well and it was great to meet the parents/carers that made it to the meet and greet last week. If you would like any of the handouts that I provided please let me know.
Year 2 is going to be a fantastic year with lots of exciting things to look forward too. As part of our Islands topic this term we willl be going on an educational visit to Shoreham-on-Sea on Wednesday 20th September! The children will be exploring the geography of different islands and how they are similar and different from one another.
PE is on Thursday and Friday afternoons. The children should arrive in school uniform on Thursday and Friday mornings so please ensure their PE kit is in school for these days. Children must wear the full Julian's PE kit and black plimsoles. We will not have time to change back into school uniform on Fridays.
The childrens books will be change each week. The day they are changed will depend on their current reading group. This will be explained to the children and they will be encouraged to learn which day is their book changing day.
Open reading morning
Open reading mornings occur on the first Friday of every month (unless an educational visit means this is not possible). All parents and carers are very welcome to join us for these reading sessions from 9:00 till 9:30am. We hope you can attend as many of these as possible!
Homework will be sent home every Friday afternoon. This will be a review/consolidation of what the children have been learning in class. Activities and tasks will include a combination of maths, literacy, phonics and creative context topics. This will need to be returned by the following Wednesday at the latest so that it can be marked. We also ask that you read as frequently as possible with your child, using the school books that have been sent home. Please use the reading records to see what your child has been reading at school and use this to make comments of how they have got on.
If you have any questions, please fell free to ask!
