Welcome to Year 2!
In English we have been learning about non-fiction texts and instructions writing. We created our own information books on British coastal animals. Over the next few weeks we will be learning all about instruction writing and will finally write instructions and build our very own lighthouses.
In Maths this term we will be focusing on multiplication and division. We will also be working on skills to help improve mathematical fluency (e.g. 2, 3, 5 & 10 x table, number bonds). Children will have Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRFs) to practice each half term.
In Science this term, we are learning about different materials and their properties. We have discussed everyday objects, such as a wooden spoon, and have thought about why each object is made from a particualr material. We are practising explaining our ideas using as much scientific language as possible.
Our Creative Context this term is Islands. We are learning about Grace Darling and the history of the RNLI. We are thinking about how water safety has changed over time and how events from the past can impact on our lives today. Our exciting trip to Shoreham-By-Sea will support us with this!
At Julian's Primary School we approach school life with a growth mindset. We know that success is the result of hardwork and effort and are therefore working reciprocially with each other in order to ensure we achieve our best. This week, all classes are learning the importance of giving and receiving kind, useful and specific feedback to each other in order to improve. We are doing this through the medium of drafting and re-drafting observational sketches linked to our new book in English, The Snail and The Whale.
