Welcome to 2PS!
I hope you have had an fantastic summer and are ready for the new year! Our topic this term is Islands. It's been so great to see the wondeful projects that the children did during the holidays. This term children will explore a variety of islands, thinking about their georgraphy and how they are similar and different from one another. Thank you all for the amazing projects that have been brought in so far. These will be displayed in the classroom and children will have an opportunity to talk about their chosen island.
In English we will be reading the book Katie Morag and the Two Grandmothers by Mairi Hedderwick. We will be making predictions and focusing on the children's descriptive writing skills. This book is set on an island so will link to this term's topic.
In Maths this term we will be focusing on place value, addition and subtraction. We will also be working on skills to help improve mathematical fluency (e.g. 2, 3, 5 & 10 x table, number bonds). Children will have Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRFs) to practice each half term.
Art, Science and RE will be taught every week.
Children will have Guided Reading, Phonics and Handwriting lessons daily.
Music will be taught every Tuesday.
Homework will be sent home every Friday. This will need to be returned by the following Wednesday at the latest so that it can be marked.
PE is on Tuesdays and Fridays. Children must wear the full Julian's PE kit and black plimsoles.
